HANDRIGHTING, INK. Summer Lessons  (Completed)
SUMMER 2011

HandRIGHTing, Ink. is offering a 6-week summer handwriting class program for your child.  Classes will start the week of June 20 and end the week of July 25.

The cost of 6 weekly 1-hour lessons is $300.00. To secure a place in the class, a $50.00 is required. The balance of $250.00 is due the first lesson.  A screening of your child is expected in order for us to determine his/her needs.  *See below.

Children from the ages of 6 years to high school will attend a 1-hour class per week.

Children are grouped according to whether they are working on printing or cursive styles or in middle school/high school.

Classes will meet in three locations:

1) On Tuesdays, classes meet at:

HandRIGHTing, Ink. Studio
63 West Lancaster Avenue, Suite #6,
Ardmore, PA 19003
Use secret code to get into the front door, Press:

2) On Wednesdays, classes meet at:

Vision Development Center
Valley Forge Towers
10106 Valley Forge Circle
King of Prussia, PA 19406

3) On Thursdays, classes meet at:

Berwyn Location:
Easttown Public Library, Children's Section
720 First Avenue
Berwyn, PA 19312

HandRIGHTing, Ink. will focus on improving the various performance components that underly the skill of handwriting.  These underlying skills include postural control, pencil grip, eye-hand coordination, attention, visual perception, as well as other skills.  The group classes are fun!  They provide a variety of sensory-motor experiences through  crafts, fine-motor and handwriting projects to meet individual needs. Your child will work at his or her own pace to gain skill and mastery.

A typical 1-hour class for printers or cursive writers may begin with a 20 minute craft or activity which improves finger strength and dexterity and allows a varying amount of creativity.  Then the group will begin the task of practicing handwriting using an effective pencil grasp, forming letters correctly and with proper size and space between letters and words. Gradually, their handwriting will begin to speed up while maintaining good quality - in an attempt to gain a spot on the Handwriting Hall of Fame!! Prizes are given for completing homework (yes, homework!!) and for trying their best in class, and for completing extra (optional) work, and anything other reason we can think of.

*Screening your child:  Writers not previously known to HandRIGHTing, Ink. are asked to schedule a 1-hour appointment to allow us to acquaint ourselves with you child and to provide a screening to determine the specific areas that we will work on with your child.  The cost of the screening is $50.00. Call Sandy Purvis, OTR/L for an appointment, 610-213-3334.

Other Considerations:

If this schedule does not suit yours, consider private instruction on another day or time.

So many other commitments interfere with your ability to commit to a 6 week plan, so that, we have decided to increase the flexibility of scheduling for our families.

Private (1 person) and semi-private (2-3 persons) lessons are available during the summer to suit your child's own schedule.  Bring your child or children, and a friend to either the Ardmore, Berwyn or King of Prussia location. Private lessons are $80.00 per hour and Semi-private lessons are $50.00 per child per hour.

We can help you find a time that is best for you. Plan to schedule one hour for each private or semi-private lesson.

¬Children aged 5 and under require maximum attention to stay focused and to learn to print. Therefore this age group will need private lessons in order to accommodate their needs. No children who are age 5 or younger will be allowed to attend group classes.

Reminder: Classes will start the week of June 20 and end the week of July 25. Because a commitment of 1-hour per week for 6 weeks requires time, energy, and money, be sure that you want to take on this opportunity because cancellations are discouraged.

For additional information, and to register for classes, see the summer application in Microsoft Word format so that you can type and email the form to us or in pdf format that you can print  and FAX or mail it with your deposit.  HandRIGHTing, Ink. accepts checks or cash, but not credit cards.
